Regional

Regionals began this weekend and it was a very competitive one at that. We
started off against Stony Brook on Friday night and they played us extremely
tough and never gave up, but we were able to pull that game out, 9-7. On Saturday,
we played Oklahoma, who had beaten a very strong Vanderbilt team on Friday. We won, 15-3, behind Mike Leake and his customary eight strong innings…not to
mention the offense banged out 15 hits.

On Sunday, we faced Oklahoma for the second
time and cruised to a 12-0 victory and clinched a super regional berth. Josh
Satow took the hill in the decisive game and threw 7.1 three-hit scoreless
innings and still had plenty left in the tank.  It was also nice to get Ike
Davis back on the mound where we have missed him for the last month or more
because of a rib injury. He threw a hitless and scoreless ninth Sunday.

This
weekend was a lot of fun. Playoff baseball is always exciting because every game
is so intense and against such good competition.

Super-regionals are next
week and we will play the winner of Fresno State and University of San Diego’s
game tonight. Fresno State has come on very strong as a four seed and USD has a
great starting rotation anchored by my buddy Brian Matusz. He has been lights
out all season and they are rolling, so it will be fun to see how that plays out
tonight so we can start preparing for the weekend.

I’ll check in with you guys again
next week, and I want to wish all my friends and teammates good luck on Thursday
with the draft.

Good luck Brett. Any chance you could start a rumor about wanting a $21 million major league deal so you could slip to the Yankees at 28 :)? I would love to see you in pinstripes.

Hey Brett, good luck tomorrow in the draft. Personally I hope the “A” s draft you so we can come and see you play in Sac or Oakland. Also good luck in the Super Regionals and the CWS when you make it. Early congratulations, Coach Arnott.

Brett, you have represented ASU well in your tenure and I am proud to call myself a Sun Devil (alumni – Class of 1998)!
Good luck to you and the rest of the ASU squad in the Super Regionals this weekend on your road to Omaha!
The women of the National Champion ASU softball team certainly made their mark, now its the mens turn!
How about a baseball vs. softball game at ASU for charity? That would be cool!

    Hey Brett,

Congrats on being #13 in the draft! It’ll be fun seeing what you do from here.

    Brett,
My name is Callee and I have been a fan of you since your freshman year. I live three hours away from Tempe but i went to 4 games this year and I was the one that wore the shirt with your name and number on the back with “living in wally world” on the front. If I couldn’t be there to watch the game I was online listening to the radio. I watched the final game of the supers last night and I was really bummed. I’m really excited that you made it to the majors…I honestly never doubted! I’m sure I will be back to read other blogs. Tell your mom that “the girl who made the shirt about you” 🙂 says hi!

I watched the final game of the supers last night on tv and I was bummed. But you had an amazing 3 years at ASU, and I’m sure it feels cool being tied with Barry Bonds for career home runs. I can’t wait to see you in the majors! good luck next year but I’m sure i’ll see you! Tell your mom that “the girl that made the shirt about you says hi” 🙂 hope maybe you’ll read this and write back or something.

    Hi Brett,
My name is Callee and I have been a fan of you since your freshman year. I live 3 hours away from Tempe but I spent all my money making sure I could go to every game possible, except I only went to 4! You might remember me because I was the girl with your name and number on the back of my t-shirt and “living in wally world” on the front. Your mom came up to me at the Oregon State game and introduced her to me and we talked. Your an amazing baseball player and I am sad to see you leave Arizona State. It’s great that you got picked by the Cardinals…Congratulations! The 2008 ASU baseball team had a really good year. On Saturday night I went to the opening game of Supers and I watched Sunday and Mondays game on TV. I’m sure it feels pretty good being tied with Barry Bonds for career home runs! I’m sure I will see you play ball sometime! Hopefully you will read this and if you do tell your mom that “the girl with that made a shirt about you” says hi!

    Hey Brett
Congratulations on a terrific college career. I now have 2 favorite MLB teams: S.F. Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. Best of luck to ya.
